COLUMBIA (WACH) – The University of South Carolina has launched a new application for Apple’s iPhone and iPad.
“It’s designed to try and provide an additional way for people to get information about the university,” said Director Denise Wellman.
Wellman says the new tool allows users the ability to take a virtual tour of USC’s campus, something she believes will help meet the needs of prospective students.
“From their own home, or their iPad or iPhone, or as they are driving to campus, or just after they got their acceptance letter and they want to look a little bit more at the university, it’s a different kind of venue for them to do that,” said Wellman.
And Wellman says, the app is for current students too. She says it includes tools like a campus GPS and information about student life and events.
“It does make our jobs a little easier,” said University Ambassador Gregory Goetz.
Goetz is responsible for taking campus visitors on tours and says the tool gives more information than could ever be covered in a single tour.
“It will give students a lot of background information on the university,” said Geotz.
And while the new app may be a great way for prospective students to experience the campus, Wellman says nothing beats actually setting foot on it yourself.
“We don’t want them not to come visit. This is not a replacement for that. We hope that it will tease them a little bit more,” said Wellman.
USC’s free app can be downloaded from iTunes.com, Apple's app store, or from the USC Visitor Center webpage.
